Welcome to My Personal Page
Many of you know that I’ve been dealing with ALS for quite some time. I was diagnosed 7 years ago, but looking back, I probably have had the disease for at least 16 years. Fortunately for me, I have a very slow progressing form of the disease. However, slow progression doesn’t mean no progression. I’m at a point where I can’t stand or walk. There are things that I took for granted that were so easy to do that I can’t do anymore without help or are very difficult for me to do by myself. I rely on my motorized wheelchair to get around the house and handicapped accessible van to go places. And my family plays an important role in helping me with day-to-day tasks.
All that being said, I’m still me. I choose each day to live my life, even though it is sometimes difficult with all of my limitations. I’ve kept my sense of humor and positive outlook. I know there won’t be a cure for ALS in my lifetime, but with all the research being done, there will be a cure soon.
Thank you for supporting my ALS United Walk fundraiser! The ALS United Walk raises funds for local patient care programs and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That's why I'm walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: "You have ALS" again.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But we can't stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
