ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a cruel, relentless disease that slowly takes away the things we often take for granted: the ability to walk, to speak, to swallow, to breathe. Most people diagnosed live for just 2 to 5 years. ALS doesn’t discriminate, it can touch anyone, at any time. And right now, there is no known cause and no cure.

We're participating because we refuse to accept this reality. We are walking for our son in law Brian, our entire family and for the families who watch their loved ones fade too soon. Since Brian's diagnosis was announced, so many of our friends have reached out to share their personal stories about loved ones with ALS. We had no idea how many people in our social circle have been impacted by this disease. We are walking for the moments stolen by this disease and for the hope that we can one day give them back. We are walking so that no one ever has to hear the words, “You have ALS,” without knowing that the world is fighting with them.

The past several years have brought real progress: breakthroughs in research, expanded care, and laws that help families living with ALS. But progress alone is not enough. Every step we take together brings us closer to a cure, and closer to changing lives right now.
