Thank you for supporting my ALS United Walk fundraiser. Your support is more than a donation, it’s a lifeline for people living with ALS, a spark of hope, and a step toward a world without this devastating disease.

Our team is walking in memory of my father, Marty Gold, of blessed memory, and my husband, Rich Perlman. Marty was a wonderful father, Pop-pop and husband. He was wise, kind and generous. He had a way of making everyone he met feel seen and valued. He had an adventurous spirit, and was always looking to try new things and to go to new places. He put his family first, always.  Marty passed away from ALS in 1999 at the age of 69.

My husband Rich is smart, generous and caring. He practiced cardiology for 35 years. He is an excellent listener, and his patients adored him. He is wise, funny, and always tries to do the right thing in all situations. He is my best friend. We were looking forward to his retirement as an opportunity to travel and enjoy a more relaxed and carefree life. Rich was diagnosed with ALS in 2025. We are now working to raise awaremess and resourses to fight this terrible disease.

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a cruel, relentless disease that slowly takes away the things we often take for granted: the ability to walk, to speak, to swallow, to breathe. Most people diagnosed live for just 2 to 5 years. ALS doesn’t discriminate, it can touch anyone, at any time. And right now, there is no known cause and no cure.

I’m walking because I refuse to accept this reality. I’m walking for the families who watch their loved ones fade too soon. I’m walking for the moments stolen by this disease and for the hope that we can one day give them back. I’m walking so that no one ever has to hear the words, “You have ALS,” without knowing that the world is fighting with them.

The past several years have brought real progress: breakthroughs in research, expanded care, and laws that help families living with ALS. But progress alone is not enough. Every step we take together brings us closer to a cure, and closer to changing lives right now.

Please walk with me or sponsor me. Every donation, every step, every act of support sends a powerful message: we will not give up. Together, we can bring hope where there is fear, and light where there is darkness.

ALS may be relentless, but so are we.
