Thank you for visiting my page! This will be my fifth year participating in the walk.
Year One I walked the whole way and danced across the finish line. Year Two I rode a scooter most of the way and walked across the finish line. Year Three I needed to be in a small wheelchair, but I was able to walk with assistance over the finish line. Like last year, this year I will be taking my handicap van with my big specially fitted wheelchair and my eye gaze tablet. Last year Chris drove me around but I was able to drive myself across the finish line. This year, I will not have the ability to drive myself across it so Chris will drive me across.
This disease is so cruel. It continues to take more from me every year. Last year it took my ability to speak! This year my energy is very depleted. It takes a lot to do even the small things. But the one thing that hasn’t changed is who I am, my thoughts, memories, experiences, and friendships.
Thank you to all of you who have supported me and my family through this process. I hope to continue to raise awareness about this awful disease so that one day there will be a cure. Please join my team, walk by my side, and help me reach my goal!
I'm participating to change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: "You have ALS" again.
The past three years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But we can't stop now. The key to a cure begins with us.
