This is my sister and her battle with ALS;

What is ALS to me? ALS is not being able to go anywhere alone anymore because your arms don’t work all the way so you can’t lift or carry anything.

ALS is taking every step hoping and praying your legs don’t give out or your feet don’t get tangled and down you go…but here’s the kicker, your legs are weak so once you go down you can’t get back up without help.

ALS is being home alone and you can’t open a drink or make yourself food because you have no strength in your hands or arms to do it.

ALS is praying that God will especially protect your child because you physically can’t.

ALS is feeling helpless because you can’t do your own hair, makeup or sometimes get dressed because your arms just won’t let you.

ALS is feeling like a constant burden on family & friends because you ALWAYS have to rely on someone for help with something.

ALS is having to force yourself to eat even if you don’t want to because losing weight could be catastrophic.

ALS is having your nieces and nephews wanting you to pick them up and hold them and they just stare at you wondering why you won’t.

Imagine going to the gym, doing a 2 hour straight arm work out then coming home putting weights on your arms and showering.

Yup that’s ALS to me. It’s mentally & physically draining.
