About the 2026 ALS United Walk and 5K

Since 1977, ALS United Mid-Atlantic has delivered comprehensive, compassionate support to people living with ALS by providing exceptional patient services, essential programs, and driving research toward better treatments and a cure. Donations help make a meaningful impact, strengthening care, advancing innovation, and bringing hope to the entire ALS community.

This year, we proudly continue the legacy of the Scott A. Mackler Memorial 5K by featuring a 5K along the Wilmington Riverfront in honor of the Mackler family’s extraordinary 25-year impact and their leadership in expanding assistive technology for people living with ALS.

ALS Certified Centers and Clinics

We collaborate with some of the best ALS physicians and clinics in our region. These clinics emphasize hope and quality of life in a supportive, family-oriented environment, while enabling patients to receive specialized care during a single visit from a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals.

Research Programs

With your support, our research funding fuels collaboration to expedite the discovery of treatments and a cure for ALS. We prioritize funding the most promising research endeavors and actively cultivate innovative partnerships.

Home Care

The Howard I. Abrams In-Home Care Program provides grants to ALS families to help with the cost of home care and respite while working with a social worker on an individualized long-term plan for care.

Resources for Military Veterans

ALS United Mid-Atlantic is working every day to support people with ALS and their families, including our heroes who have served in the military and who are approximately twice as likely to develop ALS as those who have not served.

Resource Groups

ALS United Mid-Atlantic hosts Resource Groups throughout our service region to provide an opportunity for those living with ALS, caregivers, families and friends to be mutually supportive, exchange practical information, and share their experiences. We also provide support groups specifically for caregiver and bereavement support. All groups are free of charge.
